@ Tim: Henri Nouwen’s book is so rich! Yes, I’ve read it and it’s one of my favorites. I’ve also fallen in love with the painting, in part due to Nouwen’s book. The experience of forgiveness (asking for it, extending it, living in light of it) is powerful… and it’s not natural! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Great thoughts, as always, Miss Sarah. I have stared this one down many times as a parent - the giving end and the receiving end of asking forgiveness. Have you read Henri Nouwen's book "The Return of the Prodigal Son", based on the Rembrandt painting you included in the post (seeing the picture on FB drew me to the post!)? It intersects well with some of what you have said here.

hi sarah,
i don't even know where to start!

that last line you wrote in this post is so true. and your heartache might subside but that 'wondering' about your child never goes away.

i have been on a similar journey and i've now read a few of your posts. my heart breaks for you because i connect with so many things you say. i now miraculously have a child but it doesn't take away the impact of the loss and my strong desire for you to know you are not alone- though on many days it probably feels like it.

you are such a wonderful communicator and i admire the way you write. i will be praying for you and your husband- for God's comfort and healing.

also, please feel free to write to me if you ever need someone to say things to on the crazy days!

(from another sarah... but across the globe!)

Wow! You guys are getting to do some amazing/fascinating and incredibly fun things! So happy for you! I'm getting more excited about moving to Philadelphia, after reading your fun NY stories- not exactly the same, but still lots of fun things to do there, as well.

A hard read and like you said, hard to think of children living in this kind of situation. I often wonder how hard it is for God to watch this happen. The harder thing for me is to know that God loves that angry woman just as much as he loves her son and as much as loves me.

Sarah,
This was really hard to read. I am in tears now. Its those situations that make me pound the table and make me so upset. Its everywhere. Children who live in fear and pain. Its awful and I hate it. Come Jesus come!

Thanks, Sarah. Sometimes--often--it is overwhelming to watch the pain and anger and violence that surround broken people. And all of us are broken. We must care and seek to help. But I am grateful that we are doing the thing that ultimately makes a real difference.

Sarah - I am so good at mourning with those who mourn, but it's a daily prayer and struggle for me to rejoice with those who rejoice especially if they're rejoicing over something I long for in my life. Thank you for your words... Praying that you'll feel enveloped by God's love through your sorrow.
